teaser

January 15, 2010

so here are some photos of our first floor bathroom…

yeah she was a beauty, and I’m sure at this point you’re wondering why we even bought the place, but if you use you x-ray glasses you can see the original subway tile behind all of that goopy adhesive on the wall! So that was one clue that a little elbow grease might uncover something spectacular… oh and that second photo is actually the roughed in shower that was never installed after the “fire” that occurred in the original shower, I dunno, the inspector said the area is sound so that’s all we care to know.. shower fire, really though!? anyone?!

so after hours of this, and days of stripping flooring adhesive off of the walls we discovered all the original tile, and are quite happy with what the house has given us to work with!

It is still a little yucky looking at this point, but that is why this post is titled “teaser”, so tomorrow we will post the finished photos, yay!

ps. we’re totally obsessed with the tub it’s so nice and deep we can actually put our legs out straight and still be emerged in water, which is a mind blowing concept for a tall lady!

It really makes you wonder what people were thinking covering up that beautiful tile. It sounds like you’re keeping (kept?) the original tile and that makes me so happy 🙂 What are you doing (did you do?) with the window? The glass is gorgeous!

we are certainly keeping it and are totally impressed with how good their condition is! That blue stuff was an oil cloth material that was slapped up with flooring adhesive and duct tape and the floors were hidden by linoleum, its crazy, I can’t imagine how that seemed like an attractive way to cover up a few cracked tiles. The window is so fun, we love the glass, so we plan on fully rebuilding it once the frost has gone, and have taken a few steps to start the restoration process.

wow! Discovered your blog via Style/Swoon and am being bad and browsing when I should be working (don’t tell my boss!)… that house is what dreams are made of! I’d kill for a bathroom like that. Congrats, good luck, and I’ll be back. Can’t wait to see what wonderful things you do.
